It's certainly worth looking into, but it's not the original Global Jukebox, which was a far more ambitious project.DocGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17359004200002936544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2808406058173173703.post-36998243300507863402012-08-08T09:48:28.245-04:002012-08-08T09:48:28.245-04:00Hi Brodie. Read on.

The Global Jukebox turned out to be a far more ambitious project than Lomax had anticipated and so he was never able to complete it. All the materials are, to my knowledge, now stored at the Library of Congress.

There was some publicity not too long ago about an archive titled "The Global Jukebox" which was supposed to become available via the Assoc. for Cultural Equity website (http://www.culturalequity.org/), now run by Alan's daughter, Anna. As I understand it, this was only to be an archive of recordings and possibly some photos and film clips. But it was a promising start and I was hoping there could be some effort to revive Alan's original plan in its entirety. But that doesn't seem to be in the works. It would be a huge endeavor.

Checking the Assoc. website today I don't see any reference to it, so I'm not sure what it's status is. But you can find many of Alan's recordings and clips from recordings there. It's certainly a valuable resource.DocGhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17359004200002936544noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2808406058173173703.post-36673464506526531852012-08-08T02:32:02.548-04:002012-08-08T02:32:02.548-04:00Hi Victor,

I guess that's two guesses. Looking forward to finding out your answer.

Your arguments in the last few posts, to me, are pretty convincing, and certainly support further investigation. I've also loved getting a glimpse into some of the data from the Cantometrics database. I had a good laugh when you said that it was only accessible with a Mac Quadra previously.

Thanks for the fascinating read, I'm glad to have a chance to get back into your blog after a bit of a break. I'm also curious to know, what's the current status of the Global Jukebox? Has any progress been made in the last few years?Brodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00914309756383100623noreply@blogger.com
