60. What's Next?

In future posts I want to go more deeply into matters such as the nature of musical syntax and musical structure generally, including the meaning of what is called "phrasing" -- and the roots of all these elements in "early music." I also plan on taking us through the entire history of music, from the paleolithic right to the present, following the course of a particularly significant musical "lineage" I like to call "the great tradition." For now, however, what I'm planning is a survey of the distribution of tuned pipes and other hocketed ensembles bearing the "African signature" in various parts of the world, including as many recorded clips as I can manage.
